Located only 45 minutes south of Portland, Oregon, The Wooden Shoe Tulip Fields opened a summer flower festival which fills their gardens with thousands of sunflowers.
You can’t miss this Oregon Sunflower Field blooming for only a few short weeks in the summer.
The Summer Flowers at Wooden Shoe launched for the first time in 2024 ever. For the last 50 years, Wooden Shoe has been known primarily for their tulips. They transitioned from tulips to sunflowers for the season, and also included dahlias, cosmos, and other beauties.
The event runs for only three weeks during the months of July and August primarily due to its new launching and testing. If you can’t make it this year it is a MUST for next year.
The dates for 2024 are:
- Fridays- Sundays
- July 26th – August 11th
- 10am – 4pm
Hopefully they will extend their season in years to come!
What can you do there?
- Make your way through their sunflower maze and see thousands and thousands of sunflowers. Some flowers are larger than most peoples heads! At the end of the maze you can climb some stairs to look over the whole field. It’s a stunning sight.
- Purchase a vase which allows a U-Pick where you can go through their rows of Teddy Bear Sunflowers, Common Sunflowers, Cosmos, Dahlias, and more. They will give you a mason jar, a pair of snips and instructions on what to do. After you pick them, there is a station to process your flowers.
- Wooden Shoe grows their own grapes right on the property, so guests have an opportunity to go wine tasting
- If you love to check out local merchandise, head on over to their quaint gift shop filled with a lot of cute items.
Are there any fees?
- Unlike their annual Tulip Festival that happens every Spring, the admission fees are significantly cheaper. You can stroll the fields for only $10 a person which includes free parking.
- If you want to U-Pick, you can pay $15 a person which includes a jar and an abundance of flowers. If you can fit the flowers in the jar you can keep them all (you can get a ton). They will give you a pair of snips to borrow. It’s important to note that there may be a few bugs on the flowers, so shake them as best and gently as you can
- The fees are a bit pricy overall, but compared to their Tulip Festival, you’ll save around $15 extra per person.
